The quiet weeks before everything changes

The last weeks of pregnancy as a solo mom are a season of their own. Slower. Stranger. Often more beautiful than anyone prepared you for.

There is a particular hush that settles over the final weeks of pregnancy.

The nursery is mostly ready. The hospital bag sits by the door. The to-do list, for the first time in months, has quieted.

And there you are — alone in your apartment, with a small person turning slowly inside you, and the strangest sense that you are standing at the edge of your old life.

No one quite prepares you for this part.

For the way time bends. For the conversations you have with your baby in the bath. For the way you'll find yourself crying in the kitchen — not from sadness, but from the sheer weight of the love already there.

For solo moms by choice, these weeks carry an extra dimension. There is no partner to hold the wait with you. No one to share the 3am wonder, or the wave of fear that sometimes crashes in behind it.

But there is also a clarity that's hard to describe. A sense that this child is already yours — chosen, longed for, carried.

The village you've been building — the women on the same path, the friends who get it, the mother across the country who texts every morning — they're already gathering around you, even if you can't see them all at once.

You are not waiting alone. You are waiting toward.

And what's coming is going to know you, your voice, your heartbeat, the rhythm of your days. Before they ever meet anyone else, they'll know you.

That's not a small thing. That's the whole thing.
